Fun facts about the Chaffinch bird:
-
Chaffinches were originally woodland birds, but are now just as characteristic of farmland and suburban gardens.
-
The correct pronunciation of chaffinch is really charf-finch, as this bird takes its name from the chaff that was used in the nosebags of working horses. The chaffinches fed on the spilt chaff.
-
Female chaffinches tend to migrate farther in winter than males.
-
In winter all-male chaffinch flocks are not unusual, giving rise to another old country name of bachelor bird.
Class Teacher: Mrs Jordan
Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday.
Please don't forget to wear your kit into school. As long as the weather permits, we will be outside so please remember to wrap up warm on the chillier days!
We try and get out as much as possible, so if it is drizzly we may still take a break outside. It is really important that children come to school with a warm raincoat on those damper days.
Homework Expectations:
Homework is about ensuring further practice helps embed new knowledge and skills into the long-term memory.
It will consist of some maths and some writing (mostly with a focus on spelling, grammar or sentence structure) and reading comprehension.
In Year 6 there will be an expectation of additional revision in order to be as well prepared for SATs tests as possible. (These National Tests take place in May). This will be the first time you will ‘revise’ at home in preparation for tests. Independent revision is an important skill to develop as you head off to Secondary School and beyond. We will support you in school with how to best do this and suitable revision guides will be sent home in the Spring Term.

These links take you to a number of websites that will offer you an opportunity to practice and rehearse your learning in order to become a more confident and fluent learner - be it a more fluent reader or a more fluent mathematician who can rapidly recall all his 12x12 times tables.
